I grew up in Ohio and lived through the massive changes brought by the outsourcing of manufacturing to Mexico (NAFTA) and China. Why won’t AI, especially with these reasoning models, do the same in NYC for $100–300K high-cognition jobs (financial analysts, risk specialists, lawyers, consultants, etc.)?
”Reasoning” AI models a whole new class of AI models that are way more advanced than “traditional” LLM like ChatGPT 3.5 from OpenAI. Have you tried OpenAI o3 or DeepSeek V3? OpenAI has a particularly impressive one called Deep Research, available for the $200/mo pro user, that researches a topic for 5-30 min and creates a college or graduate-student level 10-15 page paper (if you don’t have access to Deep Research, email me your prompt and I’ll run a query for you).
AI capability continues to improve at a blistering pace and “AI absorption” by individuals and companies continues to fall further behind.
Like it or not, massive change is coming for some.
